The diverse members of the Mindfulness in Education Network Board invite you to participate in a transformational weekend of using mindful awareness and contemplative practices to examine our biases, deepen our relationships, and transform our teaching.
Through a combination of experiential activities and teaching instruction, you learn:
- Different modalities for interrogating and examining race, power, privilege, and difference in a mindfulness retreat setting, and the skills to correlate that to the classroom
- Playful strategies for students to engage in mindful self-awareness
- Skills for deep listening and building empathy
- How to recognize our capacity for discomfort so that we can hold space for ourselves and our students/our communities
- A foundational understanding that these are practices that participants must deeply embody and adopt in order to work for peace, social justice, and transformation in their educational communities
You return home with:
- Experience learning in a "Brave Space" of trust, vulnerability, and transparency that can be brought to participants' work with other groups and organizations
- Practice doing meaningful, internal work as we engage in mindful systemic change
- Increased awareness of how to bridge the gap between inner work and systemic change and some skills to integrate the two
- Practical skills, including mindfulness, mindful communications and Nonviolent Communication skills, and distress tolerance
- Tools to cocreate a community dedicated to mindfulness and justice in education
This workshop is appropriate for educators at all levels and of all capacities.
