New York Times best-selling author, Elizabeth Lesser is cofounder and senior advisor of Omega Institute. For 30 years, she has studied and worked with leading figures in the fields of emotional intelligence and healing—healing self and healing society. For much of that time, Lesser was a driving force at Omega, helping to lead the organization, create the curriculum, and spearhead many of its programs, including the Women and Power conferences, which offer a dialogue between women in leadership positions in a variety of areas—government, religion, media, the arts, and more. Dynamic and inspiring spiritual teacher, Adyashanti reveals that as you become more conscious, the desire to be of service becomes a natural instinct. But, it is important to look deeply at your motivations to understand if you are coming to service from a place of division—you against them—which may create resistance, rather than coming to service from a place of wholeness which will create deeper transformation for all. According to the Nonprofit Finance Fund's annual survey of more than 1,900 nonprofit leaders in markets nationwide, there is a rising demand for nonprofit safety net services and a lack of adequate resources to meet the needs of society's most vulnerable. It is against this backdrop that Omega Institute awards a number of grants to our nonprofit peers, allowing them to attend Service Week, a one of a kind, free strategic planning and networking retreat on Omega's 195-acre Rhinebeck campus. Omega Institute Leading the Relational Inversion: From Ego to Eco by Otto Scharmer
From Ego to Eco
One of the biggest challenges we face in moving toward an ecosystem economy is to act collectively in ways that are intentional, effective, and cocreative. Over the past several years, I (Otto) have watched executives participate in a climate change simulation game at MIT, designed and led by MIT Professor John Sterman. He splits the group into small teams, with each team representing a key country group in the ongoing United Nations-sponsored negotiations over carbon emissions. The negotiators’ agreements are fed into a simulation model using actual climate data. More
What’s the Best Financial Advice You Ever Received?
Omega: What’s the best financial advice you have ever received? Manisha: If you don’t understand it, keep asking until you do. I think it’s particularly true in finance, where there are so many multisyllable words and acronyms. I want to encourage people that the good personal finance ideas are simple: Save. Don’t spend money you don’t have. Don’t take more risk in your investments than you need. More
Women are not as content as men are in today’s workplace. From the boardroom to the conference room, women often feel they’re being treated and valued differently than men. They feel their ideas are ignored or dismissed during meetings, they feel excluded from formal decisions and informal events, and they often feel passed over when challenging assignments are awarded. Interestingly, the higher up in the organization, the more frequently women will cite these feelings of disappointment and career unfulfillment. More

Omega Institute Remembering Jyoti: Calling on Men & Women to Help End the Culture of Violence Against Women by Mallika Dutt
Calling on Men & Women to Help End the Culture of Violence Against Women
One year ago, Jyoti Singh Pandey, a 23-year-old student in New Delhi, boarded a bus with a friend and headed home. She never got there. Jyoti was brutally raped by the men on the bus, her injuries severe enough to kill her. The outcry that followed sent thousands of protesters—women and men—into the streets. That men were part of the protests is significant and signals an important shift in the way we globally respond to violence against women.  More
Talking With Kids & Teens About Money
I was talking to my dentist today about flossing one’s teeth. He said the vast majority of his patients do not floss regularly and yet the handful that do are absolutely passionate about doing it. Interestingly, he observed the catalyst for starting to floss often was not “information” (i.e. people who floss have fewer dental issues) but rather something hitting them “emotionally” (i.e. a family member undergoing painful dental treatments). Omega Institute Thinking Outside of the "Man Box": An Interview With Tony Porter
An Interview With Tony Porter
Omega: What exactly is a “man box” and how does it serve, as well as inhibit, manhood?  Tony: The “man box” is how men have been collectively socialized to understand what it means to be a man. It doesn’t mean that all men respond in the same way to this collective socialization but it does mean that all men have an understanding of this socialization. More
The Pathway to a Civilization of Love
“The future of humanity will be decided not by relations between nations, but by relations between men and women.” Whether or not D. H. Lawrence was overstating the case in making this prophetic pronouncement, he was pointing to something very real. The crisis in relations between women and men is of massive proportions and is creating profound misery for literally billions of people across the planet. More
Omega Institute Share Your Light With the World by Gabrielle Bernstein
You probably don’t talk up your own awesomeness on a regular basis—if ever. Most of us, especially women, have been taught to see anything more than “quiet” confidence as boasting. In many cases the brighter we shine, the more negative reactions we receive: maybe your big promotion made you the target of office gossip, or you became a Pilates rock star and were met with more backhanded compliments than congratulations. These kinds of experiences lead us to lose sight of our talents and inner spark, which in turn deprives the world of our greatness. More
Omega_Institute_How_to_Be_Happy_or_How_We_Serve_by_Beryl_Bender_Birch
One day in late March I turned on the television looking for a weather report and happened upon Matt Lauer and the rest of the Today crew perched in front of the Vatican Palace in Rome, covering the inaugural Mass of Pope Francis. The new pope was riding along through the crowds in an open-air vehicle, waving to his well-wishers. At one point the procession stopped, the pope jumped out of the car and ambled into the crowd to greet and bless a severely disabled person. It was a glorious moment. More
