John Major Jenkins
John Major Jenkins is a researcher, teacher, and author of several pioneering books and multimedia projects on the Maya of Central America, the latest being his 3-CD audio program Unlocking the Secrets of 2012. His internationally acclaimed books include Maya Cosmogenesis 2012, Galactic Alignment, and Pyramid of Fire.
Since the mid-1980s, Jenkins has frequently lived and worked with the Quiché and Tzutujil Maya in Highland Guatemala. His work respects the traditional Maya beliefs while also attempting to reconstruct lost aspects of ancient Maya cosmology, prophecy, and spiritual teachings. In the early 1990s, his attention turned to the enigmatic cycle-ending date in the Maya calendar, December 21, 2012.
Jenkin’s work has been featured on USA Today online, the History Channel, the Travel Channel, two episodes of the Discovery Channel’s Places of Mystery, and in numerous documentaries, including Earth Under Fire, The Fifth Gate, and 2012: The Odyssey. In July of 2007, his work was commended and featured in the New York Times Magazine.
Jenkins is a featured contributor to the new anthology, The Mystery of 2012: Predictions, Prophecies, and Possibilities. He has been a visiting teacher at Naropa University, Esalen Institute, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, the University of Oregon, the Institute of Mayan Studies in Miami, and three of the conferences on Precession and Ancient Knowledge.
