Melissa Blacker, MA, is a senior teacher and codirector of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction professional training and education programs at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Before beginning her work with the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program in 1993, Blacker had careers as a music teacher and performer, and as a psychotherapist specializing in grief and trauma. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Vermont College of Norwich University.
Also an ordained Soto Zen priest, Blacker is a teacher at the Boundless Way Zen sangha, the first Zen community in North America to bring teachers of different Zen lineages together with the intention of creating a distinctly Western and American vision of Zen.
