Jill Satterfield

Jill Satterfield

Jill Satterfield, founder of Vajra Yoga, has been practicing hatha yoga primarily in the Iyengar tradition for more than 30 years and teaching for 18. For 15 years, she has been a student of Buddhism, which informs both her practice and teaching. She was recently hailed as one of four leading yoga and Buddhist teachers in the country by Shambhala Sun magazine.

Vajra Yoga developed as a natural extension of Satterfield’s practices and with the kind support of her teachers, Ajahn Amaro and Mingyur Rinpoche. This intuitive synthesis of yoga and Buddhism arose as she healed from a debilitating physical condition. Practicing meditation, yoga asanas, and visualization enabled her to heal beyond expectations. When she discovered the power of combining these practices, she knew she had found her life’s work.

She is founder of Vajra Yoga’s Social Action Teacher Training, a yoga and meditation training designed for those wishing to work professionally and skillfully with at risk youth and adults, those with chronic illness, and people in recovery programs. She is also a founding faculty member of Spirit Rock Center’s Yoga and Buddhsim Teacher Training, and the Kripalu Institute’s Integrative Leadership Program.

Satterfield teaches Vajra Yoga with some of the most respected Buddhist teachers of our time at venues nationally, including the Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock Center, the Garrison Institute, and many Shambhala Centers. Vajra Yoga has also been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Tricycle, Fit Yoga, Self, and Marie Claire.
