Mary Greer


faculty member Mary Greer is a revolutionary, breaking all the rules regarding methods of learning and using tarot cards. She has 40 years of tarot experience and, as an author and teacher, emphasizes personal insight and creativity. As a tarot reader, she works as a “midwife of the soul,” using techniques that are interactive, transformational, and empowering.

A grandmaster of the American Tarot Association, she is a member of numerous tarot organizations, and is featured at tarot conferences and symposia around the world. Greer also has a wide following in the women’s and pagan communities for her work in women’s spirituality and magic. An Arch Priestess-Hierophant in the Fellowship of Isis, she is founder of the Iseum of Isis Aurea. She is also the recipient of the 2007 International Tarot Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2006 Mercury Award from the Mary Redman Foundation for “excellence in communication in the metaphysical field.”

Greer is the author of eight books on tarot, including the classic Tarot for Your Self: A Workbook for Personal Transformation, and a scholarly biography of four 19th-century women magicians, Women of the Golden Dawn: Rebels and Priestesses.The Essence of Magic: Tarot, Ritual, and Aromatherapy is her work on magical aromatherapy and her latest book, Mary K. Greer’s 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card, won the Coalition of Visionary Resources Award for best divination book.

Greer has a master’s degree in English literature and was a faculty member and administrator of New College of California in San Francisco for 11 years. She currently lives in Northern California.
