Susan Rosen, R.Y.T.
Susan Rosen, R.Y.T., is a yoga instructor and breast cancer survivor. She was born and raised in California and received her bachelor's degree from San Diego State University.
Rosen began studying Iyengar yoga in 1989 because of debilitating pain in her shoulders. Within a few years, she was able to regain her strength and flexibility, and her pain had vanished. Inspired by her own experience with yoga, she began teaching privately more than 10 years ago in the Iyengar tradition, and is currently teaching yoga to breast cancer survivors at Positive Choice, Kaiser Permanente, one of America's leading health care organizations, in San Diego. Rosen received her yoga training from the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Centers of San Diego, and is a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance.
During her recovery from surgery and chemotherapy, Rosen practiced a series of restorative and breathing exercises specifically tailored by her yoga teachers for those going through the trauma of breast surgery. These yoga postures and breathing techniques shortened the time of her recovery and gave her a feeling of peace and well being unmatched by other women who were going through the same surgery and did not practice yoga.
After Rosen recovered from breast cancer, she decided to make an instructional video of the techniques she used for other survivors. Yoga and the Gentle Art of Healing specifically focuses on the upper body and teaches breast cancer survivors how to reduce their discomfort and energize their body, mind, and spirit. |
