Teen FAQs
- Q: What is Omega Teen Camp all about? What makes it unique?
A: There are a number of things that are unique to Omega Teen Camp. Most significantly, our staff is more accomplished and mature than staff at other summer camp programs. Our counselors include experienced teachers, therapeutic counselors, artists, and Broadway actresses, and we probably boast more certified yoga teachers on staff than any camp in the country. Also, following the spirit of the Omega Institute, we provide a summer camp experience where teenagers can discover more about themselves, and feel safe and encouraged to be exactly who they are. Our summer camp's mission is to create a safe and loving community where each and every individual is honored.
In addition, we offer many unique and exciting activities like sweat lodge ceremonies, breathwork, and Thai massage. Our entire summer camp program is structured to allow teens the freedom to choose from more than 40 activities that encourage creativity and self-expression.
- Q: How many teens come to the summer camp program and how long do they stay?
A: We average about 150 teenagers for each of the two summer camp sessions we offer each year. While the majority come for two weeks, more and more teens are choosing to stay the entire four weeks.
- Q: How many new campers are there each summer?
A: About 70 percent of our campers will be coming to Omega Teen Camp for the first time. For many, this will be their first time at an overnight camp. Our number one priority is making sure all of our campers feel included and welcome.
- Q: What kinds of teens come to camp?
A: It is difficult to classify a typical Omega Teen camper. We think we are the perfect summer camp for any sensitive, creative thinking teenager who is looking to have a great time while exploring new things in a safe and loving community. Teens who might not think of themselves as "camp kids" often love our camp.
- Q: What is the average age of teens at Omega's summer camp program?
A: Our campers are a well-balanced mix of teens ages 13-17.
- Q: What is the summer camp facility like?
A: Our summer camp program is located on 450 beautiful country acres just 90 minutes north of New York City. The facility has an Olympic size pool, lake for boating, climbing wall, high ropes course, cedar log cabins, and many other great features. There is an open house scheduled every May for anyone who wants to see our wonderful facility.
- Q: What are the most popular activities at Omega Teen Camp?
A: We love to dance at our summer camp program and hip hop, African, and salsa classes are always popular. Also popular are Thai massage, Ultimate Frisbee, pool parties, sweat lodges, spa day, photography, yoga, poetry writing, guitar lessons, henna tattooing, softball, talent shows, jewelry making, art studio, and dressing up in wacky, fun costumes.
- Q: What is summer camp food like?
A: Food at Omega Teen Camp is far from your usual fare at other summer camp programs. Our chefs come from the Omega Institute and they specialize in healthy vegetarian cuisine. Each meal includes many different choices and selections. There are always great vegetarian dishes, superb salads, and occasionally organic, free-range beef and chicken. All meals are served buffet style and campers can take as much as they want, as often as they want.
- Q: How do campers communicate with friends and family?
A: At our summer camp program, cell phones are not permitted and we try to limit phone usage as much as possible. Instead, we encourage letter writing. Family and friends can send letters to:
