Duncan Wong’s pioneering Yogic Arts™ program combines yoga with martial arts and Thai yoga therapy. The result is a dynamic exploration of movement and a graceful integration of power and fluidity.
This week we uncover the deeper mechanics of flow yoga and focus on our core strength. We look at the importance of the bandhas (yogic locks) and pranayama (breathwork); we practice moving smoothly into and out of postures, with an emphasis on jumping; and we work on developing arm-balancing postures. This practice is balanced by meditation sessions using mudras (hand gestures), restorative counterposes, and Thai massage that releases deep tension along our spine and lower back.
Practice is fast paced and rigorous; participants should be physically fit. No injuries please. Duncan Wong is also part of the I Love Yoga® Celebration June 6-8.
Duncan Wong has studied Ashtanga Yoga, Korean Buddhist martial arts, and Thai and Shiatsu body-work with a number of masters, including Ashtanga master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Jivamukti cofounders Sharon Gannon and David Life, Ashtanga teacher Eddie Stern, and Korean sword master S.J. Su. His Yogic Arts DVDs are a synthesis of these studies and are based on the common ground between them all. He lives in Shanghai and Tokyo.
