Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful therapeutic method for healing trauma-based problems. Shedding new light on trauma survival—including sexual and physical abuse, accident and surgical trauma, and grief—EMDR is opening doors of the heart to genuine spiritual transformation.
Limited to mental health professionals who are licensed to provide treatment, this course is equivalent to Level I and
Level II training and is approved by the EMDR International Association. Through lecture, hands-on practice, and demonstrations, we learn:
- protocols and procedures for using EMDR with a wide range of diagnostic categories;
- client selection criteria and cautions necessary for safe use of EMDR;
- techniques for working with blocked processing and abreactions (catharsis);
- the use of imaginal and cognitive interweaves;
- how to use EMDR with adults traumatized as children; and
- methods for developing inner resources used for interweaves, ego strengthening, and client closure.
CE and CME are available and included in the tuition. Limited enrollment; register early. $15 materials fee for manual; include when you register. Recommended reading: Parnell, Transforming Trauma and EMDR in the Treatment of Adults Abused As Children, and Francine Shapiro, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Participants will be required to submit licensure documentation before attendance and must bring copies of their professional licenses or certification to the training. Extended hours. See the participant letter for more information (pdf format; must have Adobe Acrobat Reader).
Laurel Parnell, Ph.D., is a senior EMDR Institute facilitator and faculty member at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. She's at work on a new book, EMDR in Clinical Practice, forthcoming this year. |
