Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine with roots in India going back more than 5,000 years. The aim is to integrate and balance the body, mind, and spirit to help prevent illness and promote wellness. In this workshop, we integrate ancient Ayurvedic concepts and practices, including marma points, bija mantras, food, and herbs, with the modern energetic practices of Polarity Therapy, a health system involving energy-based bodywork. Through gentle touch and the movement of prana, we balance the five elements and three doshas of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, which indicate mind and body type. Ayurvedic Polarity Therapy is beneficial for people of all ages, and can be done almost anywhere, as the person receiving the session is fully clothed (except for shoes). The basic sessions we cover in this workshop are easy to learn and can be applied immediately to ourself and others. Bodyworkers, nurses, counselors, doctors, yoga teachers, yoga therapists, and others interested in learning about this unique form of health care are invited. Morningstar’s book, The Ayurvedic Guide to Polarity Therapy, is required reading and will be used as a reference throughout the workshop. This workshop is accredited through the American Polarity Therapy Association for 22.5 CEUs. Amadea Morningstar, MA, RPP, RPE, is author of The Ayurvedic Guide to Polarity Therapy and other works. A longtime Ayurvedic educator, she is founder of the Ayurveda Polarity and Yoga Therapy Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. amadeamorningstar.com |
