The Omega Center for Sustainable Living (OCSL) is on track to be the first certified “Living Building” through the Living Building Challenge, a program of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council that asks us to move beyond the current standards for green building to redefine how we think of sustainability. This workshop explores what it takes to design and build a “Living Building” and how we can move to a state of balance between our natural and built environments.

Skip Backus is executive director of Omega. Formerly a contractor and the operations director at Omega for more than 20 years, he has provided the visionary leadership for the Omega Center for Sustainable Living, which is expected to be the first “Living Building” in the United States.

Jonathan Todd is president and chief operating officer of John Todd Ecological Design. He has aided in the planning, fabrication, and operation of a wide variety of Eco-Machines™ and floating water Aqua-Restorer™ technologies, and has a keen interest in developing sustainable solutions for refugee populations throughout the world. toddecological.com
