The Power of Dialogue

A Public Conversations Project Training

Registration for this workshop has ended. Go to the Search Workshops page to look for upcoming workshops.

Since 1989, the Public Conversations Project (PCP) has been creating opportunities for constructive conversation in the midst of deep conflicts involving values, identities, and worldviews. By shifting communication and relationships-not beliefs-participants in PCP dialogues have found fresh ways to connect across chasms of division about issues like abortion, sexual orientation, religious faith, and the environment.

This workshop introduces PCP's dialogic approach to people who are interested in fostering constructive conversations on divisive social issues. Through lectures, presentations, discussions, and an extensive dialogue simulation, we learn how to apply the key elements of the PCP approach: preparing and partnering with dialogue participants; preventing destructive debate; holding a collaborative stance; and fostering conversations that enhance understanding. We engage in exploring our own experiences, learn from others, and try out new thinking and skills for work or community use.
