How can we work with our anxiety and fear about ourself in a genuine way, one that is based on gentleness and nonaggression, yet which leads to the discovery of an indestructible fearlessness?

Pema Chödrön, one of the preeminent Tibetan Buddhist teachers of our time, returns to Omega to work with us on this timely and provocative theme. Through the practice of meditation, a discussion of powerful teachings from the Shambhala Buddhist tradition, and question-and-answer sessions, we investigate the topic of fear and fearlessness together. We explore ourself, our doubts, and our fears, and cultivate tools to discover our innate, basic goodness.

From this investigation, we find the ground of unconditional confidence, and we are able to smile at our fear. We learn how to invoke confidence as the basis for living a life that is fully and joyfully engaged. We realize that we can be both brave and tender-hearted at once. This is a powerful basis for going forward in these turbulent times, and is of great assistance for all of us, including helping professionals working with clients dealing with change and uncertainty.

This weekend will draw inspiration from Smile at Fear: Awakening the True Heart of Bravery, a soon-to-be published book of teachings by the great Tibetan master Chögyam Trungpa. The weekend includes additional meditation sessions led by Carolyn Rose Gimian, the editor of Conquering Fear.

Pema Chödrön’s accessible style and deep understanding of meditation practice and her insight into how to apply the teachings to everyday life make this program well-suited for those new to meditation and Buddhism, as well as longtime practitioners.

The workshop begins Friday at 7:00 p.m. Bring your own meditation cushion or bench if you have one; cushions and chairs are provided if you don’t.
