So many of us who teach and practice yoga are wondering how to share its gifts with others outside of our yoga classes and practice. In this training led by the creators of Off the Mat, Into the World®, we learn to hone our own leadership skills and put them to work by empowering others to be effective leaders.
To help others take their yoga “off the mat,” we learn how to:
Hold a safe space and create a container for deep healing
Facilitate from a place of compassion and empowerment
Decipher when our personal experience can enhance our work and when it can get in the way
Use mirroring, active listening, and nonviolent communication
Build community and work with group dynamics
Guide others in creative visioning, decision making, and launching grassroots projects to serve their community
Some participants who complete this training may go on to become Off the Mat faculty and lead their own Off the Mat, Into the World circles in their community. Others may use their new skills to enhance the work they already do, or get clarity on how they might become more effective leaders in their own life and work.
Course is by application only and a limited number of scholarships are available. Submit course and scholarship applications to hala@offthematintotheworld.org. Scholarship applications are due by April 18. Applicants will be notified after May 1. Course applications are due no later than May 27th. Those who apply by April 18th will be notified by May 1st. Those who apply after April 18th will be notified by June 1st. Completion of the Off the Mat, Into the World® workshop is a requirement in most cases. Seane Corn, Hala Khouri, and Suzanne Sterling are also teaching Off the Mat, Into the World®; June 7-12, 2009. Suzanne Sterling is also teaching The Yoga of Sound & Singing™; July 19-24, 2009.
