Based upon Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain techniques, this workshop is designed for students with some drawing experience and an interest in developing a deeper understanding of value and color in their work.
According to Betty Edwards, creator of this technique, the logical progression for a person starting out in artistic expression is: “From Line, to Value, to Color, to Painting.” Under Lynda Greenberg’s experienced and dynamic guidance, we begin with a review of basic drawing skills and work with value in graphite (observing and re-cording lights and shadows). Our investigations surround the idea of learning to see color as value and exploring the use of color harmony in our work.
A variety of media are introduced, including charcoal, colored pencil, and pastel. Subjects include still life, gesture drawing, models, and landscape and architecture during a day trip to the historic Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, New York.
Lynda Greenberg is also teaching Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain; June 22-27 and September 21-26.
Lynda Greenberg, MFA, a practicing artist in Long Beach, California, teaches art courses at Antelope Valley and Harbor colleges and institutions around the country. While teaching at California State University, Long Beach, she was trained by and worked with Betty Edwards, author of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, for more than a decade. artedcenter.com
