Yoga of Heart

A 5-Day Workshop to Advance Your Practice

Registration for this workshop has ended. Go to the Search Workshops page to look for upcoming workshops.

This experiential workshop is appropriate for beginners in yoga, advanced yogis, and yoga teachers who wish to make their practice (and that of their students) efficient, powerful, safe, and uniquely tailored to their needs over time. While respecting all yoga styles and each individual's background, Mark Whitwell shows us how the ancient yoga technology taught by Krishnamacharya can serve the practice we already know and love.

"Asana (postures) supports pranayama (breath techniques), pranayama supports meditation, and meditation supports life," says Whitwell. Together we clarify the principles of asana, pranayama, bandha (energetic locks), and meditation. We also explore incorporating yantra (objects of meditation) and mantra (meditative phrases) into our asana and pranayama practice. Drawing on these techniques, we create our own heart-opening daily practice.

CE available. Omega Institute and the Heart of Yoga Association are cosponsoring students from the Middle East and around the world to participate in this workshop, so that they can bring yoga teaching to their local communities. www.heartofyoga.com/hoy_association

Mark Whitwell has enjoyed a lifelong relationship with the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya through his studies with B.K.S. Iyengar, Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, Srivatsa Ramaswami, Indra Devi, and T.K.V. Desikachar. Christy Turlington Burns calls his teaching "yoga as it should be taught—with purity and straight from the heart." In 1996, Whitwell established The Heart of Yoga Association, a nonprofit foundation that provides yoga education around the world. He is the author of Yoga of Heart. www.heartofyoga.com
