After dominating the scholastic chess world for 10 years, Josh Waitzkin took up the martial art tai chi chuan and earned the title of World Champion.
How was he able to reach the pinnacle of two disciplines that on the surface seem so different? He explains, “What I am best at is not tai chi, and it is not chess. What I am best at is the art of learning.”
Through discussions and experiential exercises, Waitzkin shares with us principles of learning and performance that fuel creative, resilient growth and achievement. As we learn to break down our own false constructs and explore the thematic interconnectedness of our diverse pursuits, we tap into our unique talents and discover a highly individualized approach to the pursuit of excellence.
“In both educational and professional lives, we are often forced into molds which ignore our uniqueness of being,” Waitzkin says. Discovering a creative, internal solution to this dilemma is at the core of his perspective on the learning process.
