“The full catastrophe” is the name that Zorba the Greek gave to the multifaceted richness and stress we often feel in our lives. Many of us wonder if there is a way to feel balanced and alive in the middle of life’s challenges. This retreat is for intensive training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). MBSR originated in the pioneering work of the Stress Reduction Clinic, which was founded in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Since its inception, the majority of 18,000 program graduates report: - Coping more effectively with both short- and long-term stress
- Greater self-respect, energy, and enthusiasm for life
- Lasting improvements in physical and psychological well-being
The primary aim of MBSR is the cultivation and integration of mindfulness in everyday life. The daily format of our retreat is designed to optimize the benefits of both large and small group interactions and solitary periods of silent mindfulness meditation practices. We inquire into our personal experience of meditation and its implication in our daily lives. Come prepared to rediscover the healthy balance that lies beneath life’s turbulent changes, and to find strength, resilience, and renewal.
Upon completion, participants will be better able to:
- Use Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to cope more effectively with both short- and long-term stress
- Develop greater self-respect, energy, and enthusiasm for life
- Obtain lasting improvements in physical and psychological well-being
- Cultivate and integrate mindfulness in everyday life.
