In a fast-moving and competitive society, friends are pillars of strength, encouragement, creativity, and growth. Good friends are hard to come by, and maintaining close relationships over time requires skill, acceptance, and love.
In this retreat, Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron's warm, humorous, and clear teachings help us explore the qualities of good friends, ways to achieve long-lasting friendships, and methods of building community.
She also offers us practical guidance on working with disturbing emotions, such as anger, that interfere with friendships, and cultivating constructive emotions, such as tolerance and patience, that enhance them.
Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron is one of the leading American Buddhist nuns in the Tibetan tradition. A student of H. H. the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan masters, she was ordained in 1977. The founder and Abbess of Sravasti Abbey, a monastery near Spokane, Washington, Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron is active in interfaith dialogue, prison work, and caring for the environment. Her books include Open Heart, Clear Mind; Buddhism for Beginners; Working with Anger; Taming the Mind; Cultivating a Compassionate Heart; and How to Free Your Mind: Tara the Liberator. She travels worldwide, teaching Buddhism and meditation. www.thubtenchodron.org |
