For most of us, singing can be a source of both joy and terror. Alone: joy. In the company of others: terror.
The boundaries of fear that we feel when we sing are similar to the ones we encounter when we attempt a new or deepening yoga posture: Can I do it? Will it hurt? Will I embarrass myself in front of all of these people who are so much better than I am at this?
In yoga and in singing, we can return to the joy of the pose, or the song, by taking a good, deep breath. In this workshop led by performing artist and yoga teacher Bar Scott, the singing is fun, the yoga gentle and restorative, and the breathing deep and transformational. Using breath exercises, yoga asanas, community singing, and inter-personal sharing, we transform our fears of both singing and yoga with one good, deep breath at a time.
No experience in singing or yoga is necessary.
All are welcome.
Bring a notebook, a yoga mat, and a musical instrument you are used to singing with, if you have one.
Bar Scott has performed with Ian Anderson and Phoebe Snow, among others. Since 1987, she has recorded and performed her original songs and has released six CDs. Scott has been practicing Viniyoga for six years and lives in the Hudson Valley of New York. barscott.com
