Living From the Heart

Registration for this workshop has ended. Go to the Search Workshops page to look for upcoming workshops.

Can I live fully? Do I love well? These are two of the greatest spiritual questions we can ask. Led by Jack Kornfield and Trudy Goodman, we draw on Eastern and Western psychology to awaken our vision and open our hearts. We look at how we have loved and not loved, how our hearts have been wounded, and the ways to nourish an open and joyful being in the midst of daily life.

We combine Buddhist insight and heart-centered meditations (loving-kindness and compassion practices), storytelling, and dialogue, to integrate this work into our ongoing spiritual practices. This workshop is appropriate for health professionals and laypeople alike.

CE available. Bring a meditation cushion or bench, if you have one. Chairs and cushions are provided. Expect to maintain some periods of silence outside of class sessions. Extended hours. See the participant letter for more information (pdf format; must have Adobe Acrobat Reader).

One of the nation's foremost Buddhist meditation masters, Jack Kornfield was trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, Burma, and India. He is a clinical psychologist and cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society in Massachusetts and founder of Spirit Rock Center in California. He is author, most recently, of The Art of Forgiveness, Lovingkindness, and Peace.

Trudy Goodman has been an ordained lay Zen Buddhist priest since 1976. A practicing psychotherapist, she now teaches vipassana meditation at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Insight Meditation Society, and the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies (BCBS). Her work is highlighted in the Spring 2004 issue of the BCBS journal, Insight.
