On his 80th birthday, the late poet Stanley Kunitz, a paragon of creative self-reinvention, concluded a poem to his wife with these lines, “What makes the engine go? Desire, desire, desire.”

Awakening Genius guides us to the depths of this creative truth. Mark Matousek shows us how to locate, embrace, and utilize the power of this “genius engine.” We begin by examining the question of desire and how we can utilize our unique passions. Then we explore the many faces of desire, finally developing a personal plan that can help us maintain our connection to our creative vision long after we return home.

Each day we have a morning meditation session, followed by teaching, individual writing time, and one-on-one meetings with Matousek. Afternoons offer experiential exercises, group sharing (and reading), and a sampling of relevant psychological and spiritual literature.

Awakening Genius is intended for anyone who is serious about discovering his or her creative potential and living an enlightened, passionate life.
