Description

Innovative drummer, teacher, and performer Ubaka Hill leads this celebration of women’s drumming through the traditions of various cultures, both ancient and contemporary.

Beginning and more advanced drummers are invited to join Ubaka in exploring our ancestral connections to the rhythmic pulse of drumsong. Her spirited and engaging guidance leads us into our own personal power through intuitive drumming, drumsong, storytelling, and chanting.

Throughout the weekend, we focus on developing and improving drumming techniques and our own rhythmic vocabulary. Together, we experience the unifying and revitalizing effects of group playing, toning, and singing.

Ubaka also leads us in an exploration of topics related to women’s drumming traditions and drumming techniques in the United States and around the world.
