Description

Many have experienced how faith can heal. Now, more and more medical research from leading hospitals and universities is backing up this experience.

Studies conducted at universities, including Duke, Dartmouth, and Yale, have shown that faith really does have a positive effect on your health and well-being. More than 70 of the nation’s 125 medical schools, from Harvard to Stanford, offer courses in spirituality.

This gathering on how faith can heal is for those with a personal or professional interest in the exciting research into, and practical application of, the intersection of science, medicine, healing, and spirituality.

During the weekend we learn from four eminent leaders—Harold G. Koenig, Jeffrey Rediger, Robert Peng, and Rev. Nigel Mumford—who have researched this topic and been witness to many healings. As they share their inspiring stories, we:

  • Find out about the research documented for years at Duke University’s Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health
  • Learn about the effect of intercessory prayer on the healing process
  • Explore why people who pray tend to get sick less often, and when they do get sick, how prayer can help them get better faster
  • Discover how gratitude, forgiveness, self-esteem, and love can aid the healing process
  • Delve into how faith and spirituality can help us cope during times of illness and injury

The weekend includes a qigong healing ritual, a faith healing service, guided visualizations, and other healing techniques for self and others.

Upon completion of this workshop participants will be better able to:

  • Discuss the research documented for years at Duke University’s Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health regarding the connection between faith and healing.
  • Describe the effect of intercessory prayer on the healing process
  • Explore why people who pray tend to get sick less often, and when they do get sick, how prayer can help them get better faster
  • Identify how gratitude, forgiveness, self-esteem, and love can aid the healing process
  • Discuss how faith and spirituality can help patients and caregivers cope during times of illness and injury
