Description

For one week a year for many years, Omega’s campus has resounded with the voice and exuberance of one the most renowned gospel singers of our time, Sister Alice Martin. Now that Sister Alice has retired, her daughter, Tia Pittman, offers us an equally informative, electrifying, and uplifting experience of a gospel music community.

Pittman has been singing and studying with Sister Alice all her life. She now sings and teaches gospel music, bringing with her years of study in a variety of educational settings, including Bethune Cookman College, where she steeped herself in a range of musical genres, including jazz, classical, hip hop, contemporary, and traditional gospel.

In this workshop, we journey together through the history of gospel music and its many styles and roots to learn about the art—and the heart—behind gospel music. Best of all, we learn how to sing it.

No singing experience is necessary.
