In this musical improvisation workshop, Oran Etkin draws on his experiences working with master musicians from around the world—including Africa, Indonesia, New Orleans, and the Middle East—to offer many diverse inspirations.
We listen to recordings by great weavers of melodies from different genres to see how a beautiful tune can grow from the seed of a two- or three-note motif. We also explore the power of groove and the playfulness of rhythm within it. Best of all, we make music together, deepening our connection to ourselves, each other, and our surroundings.
Etkin shows us how to trust our musical intuition, responding to what we hear and creating music in the moment without letting critical thoughts interfere.
This musical improvisation workshop is open to seasoned professionals, dedicated students, and novice music lovers eager to make music for the first time.
