Few things could be more fun than spending a week learning how to make people laugh. This comedy workshop with Jim Mendrinos of the Gotham Comedy Club offers just that for anyone with even the tiniest funny bone. Inspired by his New York City roots and an eclectic group of artists, including comics Robert Klein, Richard Pryor, and Freddie Prinze, with traces of John Coltrane, Jack Kerouac, and Beyond the Fringe, Mendrinos rises above the standard comedy fare. His act is a comedic exploration of emotional peaks and valleys that challenges his audience to mine his topics with him.
Through a combination of lectures, writing and revision drills, active deconstruction of stand-up comics at their best, and class performances, you learn how to craft your own style of stand-up comedy. You also explore your own experiences so you can come up with unique subjects to perform with personal passion.
By the end of this stand-up comedy workshop, you have a basic set of skills you can use to start performing right away and, perhaps more important, an individual approach that will help you establish an ongoing journey in comedy. Come with an idea for a performance and names of any comedians you admire.
