Research shows that mindfulness practices decrease stress, anxiety, and depression in children, while improving emotional regulation, ability to focus, and social relations—all proven contributors to academic achievement. With mindfulness, social and emotional literacy, empathy training, and other awareness-based practices, educators around the world are helping youth to cultivate insight, compassion, and attention. When learned at a young age, these skills have the capacity to transform lives, families, and societies.

Led by Daniel Rechtschaffen, author of The Way of Mindful Education, this 5-day Mindfulness in Education Teacher Training helps us gain the skills and confidence to bring the many benefits of mindfulness to children in grades K–12. Educators, counselors, parents, and child-care providers have the opportunity to deepen their own mindfulness practice, explore various mindfulness-based curricula, and discover practical tools to incorporate mindfulness practices into daily life and work.

Throughout the week, we explore various curriculum models and examine how these teachings apply to children of different ages and populations, including children with resistance, trauma, and special needs. Together, we explore practices of mindfulness, heartfulness, social emotional techniques, movement, counseling practices, and nature awareness. We also examine the current research and look at how schools and organizations are already successfully integrating these transformative practices.
