Akaya Windwood is president of the Rockwood Leadership Institute.
Founded in 2000, the Rockwood Leadership Institute provides individuals, organizations, and networks in the social benefit sector with powerful and effective training in leadership and collaboration.
Windwood joined the Rockwood Leadership Institute in 2005 as a trainer, with the encouragement of her friend and colleague, Roberto Vargas. She became president of the organization 2008.
Before joining the Rockwood Leadership Institute, Windwood cofounded and worked with the Women’s National Leadership Project for three years, in addition to running a successful, multicultural consulting practice.
Today, Windwood leads trainings both nationally and internationally and has been a featured speaker at the Stanford Social Innovation Institute, the Independent Sector Conference, and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations.
Windwood is the recipient of an Ella Award from the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and a Transformative Leadership Award from the Seasons Fund for Social Transformation.
She currently serves on the advisory board of Destiny Arts Center and the advisory board for the National Progressive Leadership Campus.
