Ila Sarley is a cofounder, along with her husband, Dinabandhu Sarley, of the Natural Yoga™ system for self-development and coauthor, with Dinabandhu, of Walking Yoga and The Essentials of Yoga.
As a leader and teacher in the fields of yoga, spirituality, and human development with two of the most influential holistic learning centers in the United States, Omega Institute and Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Sarley has dedicated her life to intensive yoga practice. Early in her life at Kripalu, she lived as a yoga monastic for 21 years, and returned decades later to become Kripalu’s president and coleader of the organization in partnership with her husband and chief executive officer, Dinabandhu.
Ila Sarley has studied with yoga masters, swamis, and teachers from India and the United States, as well as with physical therapists, physicians, physiologists. She has also studied many different styles and traditions of yoga, including Kripalu, Iyengar, Bikram, Ashtanga, and Sahaj yoga. In her leadership roles with Omega and Kripalu, she also studied with world-renowned psychologists, psychotherapists, organizational development experts, and experts in the field of psycho-spiritual development and communications.
As a teacher, Sarley has developed and taught programs for organizations and businesses, using the core principle of yoga as a cornerstone for personal and professional development. She has led workshops throughout the United States and in Costa Rica and Canada on topics that include yoga, meditation, yoga and walking, yoga for health and longevity, yoga for stress management, and the art of communication and leadership. She was a faculty member of the Month-Long Kripalu Yoga Teacher training programs for several years and a senior teacher for the Kripalu resident training programs for 16 years.
