Matthew Brensilver

Matthew Brensilver, PhD, served as a Buddhist chaplain at the University of Southern California for four years and teaches about the intersection of mindfulness and well-being at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center.

Brensilver was a hospice volunteer for several years and has conducted psychotherapy with adolescents, adults, and families. He coteaches a course at UCLA’s Brain-Mind-Wellness Summer Institute and has taught thousands of individuals about the benefits of mindfulness practices.

Brensilver was trained by Noah Levine, with whom he teaches at Against the Stream in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Brensilver also teaches mindfulness at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California and the Insight Meditation Center in Massachusetts.

In his academic life, Brensilver conducts research on addiction treatment at UCLA’s Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine.
