Col. (Ret.) Mona O. Bingham, RN, PhD, is the senior scientific director for the Military Medical Research Program at Samueli Institute in Alexandria, Virginia, where she provides oversight and scientific expertise for various research protocols and strategic planning for proposal and program development activities.
With a strong background in leadership, research, health promotion, and public health, she retired from the United States Army as a colonel after 28 years of service. She last served as the consultant to the Surgeon General for Nursing Research and Chief of Nursing Research at Brooke Army Medical Center.
In 2003, Bingham began conducting research in integrative medicine after she returned to the United States from her deployment for Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), both of which were campaigns of the Overseas Contingency Operation. OEF and OIF veterans have been found to exhibit high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
