Ronald Alexander, PhD, is a psychotherapist, leadership consultant, international trainer, and founder and executive director of the OpenMind Training Institute, which offers personal and professional training programs in mind-body therapies, transformational leadership, and mindfulness. The author of Wise Mind, Open Mind, Alexander has been conducting trainings in North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia since 1970.
Alexander has long been a pioneer in the fields of mindfulness-based therapies, Gestalt therapy, somatic psychotherapy, Ericksonian therapy, holistic psychology, leadership coaching, and integrative and behavioral medicine. His studies have taken him to Nepal, Bali, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India (where he was ordained in the lay Zen tradition). He has steeped himself in Tibetan, vipassana, and Zen Buddhism; Vedic (nondual) philosophy; and Ashtanga and Kundalini yoga.
An associate member of the American Psychological Association, Alexander is a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and a Diplomate in professional psychotherapy in the International Academy of Behavioral Medicine and Counseling. He is also an extension faculty member of the UCLA departments of humanities, social sciences, and entertainment; a lecturer in the David Geffen School of Medicine; and an adjunct faculty member at Pacifica Graduate Institute and Pepperdine University.
