We are no longer taking online registrations for this workshop.

The 12-Step literature says that those of us in recovery “are not a glum lot.” Yet, sometimes the work of recovery can seem like a heavy burden.

On this retreat, we explore ways to bring a light heart and clear mind to our recovery program. Through Buddhist mindfulness meditation, lecture, and dialogue, we look at ways we can experience happiness here and now, as well as create the causes and conditions for future happiness and contentment.

During the week we explore the meaning of happiness; how to integrate values and behavior; how to develop satisfying relationships; the joys of meditation and self-examination; and ways to find pleasure in our daily lives.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be better able to:

  • Differentiate happiness from pleasure in Buddhist teachings
  • Discuss the importance of integrating values and behavior in addiction recovery
  • Describe the importance of healthy interpersonal relations to the recovery process
  • Practice mindfulness meditation
  • Employ methods to help clients cultivate joy in the Twelve Step process and meditation
  • Identify ways to help clients find pleasure in healthy activities
