This workshop offers musicians at all levels, trained or intuitive, the tools to present their gifts, find their true sounds, make practical choices, and move listeners. We discover the connection between rhythm, pitch, harmony, and our physical experience of music.
Arranging and orchestrating for Paul Simon, Esperanza Spaulding, Bobby McFerrin, Placido Domingo, Chris Botti, and many others has honed Gil Goldstein’s natural talents. His secret weapon is his deep understanding of music theory and the visceral response to sound.
Through discussion, diagrams, and live performance, Goldstein demystifies the natural laws of music. He believes the overtone series is a guide through the jungle of misinformation commonly referred to as music theory, and is the key to finding elegant solutions to everyday musical dilemmas—composing, arranging, songwriting, listening, and comprehending.
This workshop also offers opportunities to experience the natural laws of music through improvisation and compositional exercises. We explore ways to understand these essential laws and embody them so that they become second nature and intuitive, leading us to deeper, truer, and more essential musical choices.
