Dabblers' Delights

2:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m.

Adults are welcome to choose from the following Dabblers offered Tuesday-Thursday afternoons.  You may take a different Dabbler class each afternoon, stay with your favorite one, or just take an afternoon off to relax!

Please reference the schedules that are posted all around campus, as different dabblers are offered on different days.

Dance Xross Fitness™ & Rythembody
Center for Creative Education

The Center for Creative Education dancers and drummers are Family Week regulars who bring high-energy activities for all ages, including their fitness programs, Dance Xross™ and Rhythembody.  In this dabbler, people at all levels of fitness can experience the fast-paced thrill of these popular programs that mix movement and body percussion, and are now being offered throughout the United States and overseas. They will also throw in some Soul Line Dancing for good measure. A great way to mix fun and fitness!

Dance Your Bliss
Rachel Fleischman

Are you ready for an exuberant, wildly fun, and life-changing experience? Dance Your Bliss™ is a powerful healing method that connects us to our best selves, to each other, and to boundless possibilities. Psychotherapist and expressive movement trainer Rachel Fleischman teaches us how to bring emotions into the physical body so they can be seen, felt, and healed.

Learn How to Draw & Cartoon
Karl Gude

During this fun and energy-filled session, Karl Gude shows you some simple techniques to take the mystery out of drawing—by teaching you how to "see" and record the world around you. Great for all levels. Karl Gude teaches creativity and visual communication at Michigan State University and is the former director of graphics at Newsweek magazine whose personal drawings and cartoons have graced the OpEd page of the New York Times. 

Afro Flow Yoga™
Leslie Salmon Jones and Jeff W. Jones

Afro Flow Yoga™ infuses a meditative yoga sequence of gentle yet powerful stretches with dance movements from West Africa and the Caribbean. Deeply connect with the soulful rhythmic drums, energize your chakras, gain strength and flexibility, and rejoice in feeling fully alive, grounded, and peaceful. All levels of yoga experience are welcome.

How to Be Romantic: For Men Only
Joe Killian

Men: Learn what women really want! Women: Send your man to this workshop! Next thing you know, you’ll be whisked away to Paris for the weekend (or at least get a birthday present.) Seriously, this men-only workshop is a chance for guys to learn from fearless romantic Joe Killian how to breathe warmth and fun into your relationship (or perhaps how to get one.)

Open Tennis

In this dabbler, we learn off-court exercises that strengthen concentration and somatic centeredness. Then we head to the courts to build awareness and trust, to unleash our inner player, and most of all have fun. Come on over to the tennis courts and unleash your inner player. Beginners to advanced levels; please wear sneakers and shorts or work-out pants. (***Cancelled if inclement weather.)

Life is meant to be an adventure. Yet as hard as we work at bringing energy to our careers, relationships, and everyday activities, we can sometimes feel off-track or stuck in a rut. Whether you are approaching a new stage of life, feeling uninspired at work, in a relationship that's in need of attention, or just looking for renewed inspiration, this dabbler helps you regain a sense of vitality and purpose. Learn some handy ways to “cut through the noise” of distraction (electronics and multi-tasking, and apply mindfulness to your most important endeavors.

Singing in the Stream
Maggie Wheeler and Emile Hassan Dyer

Join in the ancient tradition of community-building through song. Learn rhythms, harmonies, chants. and songs from around the world in a fun and relaxed environment. Singing together is a joyous and invigorating experience, and a great way to release tensions while creating a sense of cooperation and trust. You will be amazed at the beauty and harmony we create together!
