The Holistic Life Foundation has more than a decade of experience teaching yoga and mindfulness to youth classified as “high-risk” or “hard-to-reach” in urban environments, and has developed a unique blend of yoga, mindfulness, tai chi, and other self-healing arts.

Now the founders of the Holistic Life Foundation—Ali Smith, Andres Gonzales, and Atman Smith, along with guest teachers U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan, Dinabandhu Sarley, and Barry Boyce—offer this workshop to show you how to teach yoga and mindfulness to high-risk and hard-to-reach urban youth. You gain a deeper understanding of the needs of high-risk and urban youth and learn new yoga and mindfulness skills to help fulfill these needs.

Through a combination of practice, lectures, panel discussions, and exercises, you learn asanas, pranayama, centering exercises, mindfulness practices, and meditations. You also learn youth engagement principles, teaching philosophies, and strategies for working with “problem” students, while exploring methods to make the whole approach practical and, most of all, fun.

This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone at any skill level in yoga and mindfulness interested in teaching these techniques to urban youth, including teachers, yoga instructors, and helping professionals who wish to use the techniques in their practices.

Andres Gonzalez

Andres Gonzalez, MBA, is cofounder and chief financial officer for the Holistic Life Foundation, Inc. A yoga instructor and coauthor of a high school physical education curriculum based on yoga principles, he has been practicing and teaching yoga for the past 10 years to diverse populations at Baltimore public schools, drug treatment centers, wellness centers, and colleges. hlfinc.org
