Description

This workshop is part of our annual Arts Week celebration, a creative experience unlike any other. Immerse yourself in this class each morning, and then choose from among a variety of unique community arts projects in the afternoons. Learn more about Arts Week—and join the fun!

This Arts Week workshop is eligible for Tiered Pricing.

In this experiential rustic workshop, artist and author Daniel Mack teaches the skills and attitudes of working rustic with ordinary hand and power tools.

Discover the traditional mortise and tenon joint and other forms of joinery with natural materials as you work on a variety of woodworking projects, including chairs, benches, tables, and natural form sculpture. Materials include driftwood, maple saplings, birch bark, and slabs of interesting logs.

Experienced woodworkers and those new to woodworking will enjoy the challenges and delights of rustic work. During the workshop, we can expect to finish at least two projects.

A Message from Dan Mack:

Just an early note of welcome to the Rustic Workshop at Omega. This looks like a good year. I’ll have a supply of driftwood from a few beaver ponds, slab wood for tables, seats and benches and chairs. You can expect to make furniture, garden structures, and small sculptural assemblages in the rustic tradition. If it fits into your travel and packing plans, I ask that you bring a few tools and materials with you. Bringing tools is an optional convenience.

TOOLS:
An electric or cordless drill, a folding pruning saw, a few band-aids to prevent blisters, a small bottle of carpenter’s glue, a tape measure, garden clippers and or loppers and any other tools you are comfortable with.

SAFETY
There is a certain risk in any hand-eye activity. Rustic is no different. There will be safety equipment at the workshop, but for your own comfort, you might want to bring your own work gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, perhaps a face mask and dust mask. At no time will you be required to use equipment, which may pose a danger. It’s always your choice on what degree to explore the tools of the rustic trade.

MATERIALS:
I’d like to create a storehouse of natural materials to share with each other. Please bring a selection of natural materials for your locale: pinecones, nuts, branches, feathers, shells…

Again, let your travel plans help shape what you bring.

This workshop is for all levels of experience. Email me with any questions (rustic@warwick.net). I look forward to seeing you.

Tiered Pricing

At Omega, we believe that the benefits of a holistic education should be available to everyone. We also recognize that what is affordable for some will not be for all. We are now offering Tiered Pricing* on select programs to help meet the varying financial needs of our community.

On programs where Tiered Pricing is available, select the price that is appropriate for you. This program works on an honor system. Keep in mind that the highest price reflects the cost of the workshop and allows Omega to sustain itself, whereas the lower prices cover only a portion of those costs.

Tier 1: $425 (Register as you normally would for this pricing.)
This is the true cost of your workshop. Choosing this price helps Omega continue to retain world-class teachers and sustain classroom facilities.

Tier 2: $350 (Enter TIER 2 in the Promotional Code Box when you register.)
This is our partially subsidized price for those with temporary or minor financial need.

Tier 3: $275 (Enter TIER 3 in the Promotional Code Box when you register.)
This is our heavily subsidized price for those in need of deeper financial assistance.

*Tiered Pricing is subject to change and cannot be combined with other discounts.
