About the Training

As a TEL participant, expect to be transformed inwardly as you take courageous action at a personal, professional, and systematic level in the community you serve. Learn from experts and thought leaders in the fields of leadership, equity, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and mindfulness in the service of personal and organizational transformation.

Through a full year of training, both on campus and online, educational leaders become better equipped to:

  • Cultivate self-care and community-care, utilizing practices for developing resilience, focus, and wellness
  • Interpret and integrate decades of research and theoretical knowledge in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), mindfulness practices, and neuroscience for practical application
  • Understand and more skillfully work with stress and trauma in students, teachers, and communities
  • Hold an equity lens and integrate restorative and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Engage in a cycle of continuous improvement and practice data-driven decision-making

During the year we become a community of compassionate learners and collaborators, supporting and inspiring each other to create transformational learning communities.

Tuition

Tuition of $6,500 includes three in-person retreats, two monthly online webinars, and one monthly online cohort session.

Program Faculty





 

Each of the faculty in the TEL Leadership Team is a thought leader in his or her field. They bring a wealth of expertise and on-the-ground experience that is transformational in its approach. They collectively represent more than 100 years of service in the Pre-K through college level of education.

Meena Srinivasan, MA,Meena Srinivasan, MA, is an educational leader, national board certified teacher, writer, registered yoga teacher, and edupreneur with expertise in the fields of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Mindful Awareness Practices (MAP). Prior to leading TEL, Srinvasan spent 5 years working in partnership with the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) to implement SEL system-wide in the Oakland Unified School District. Her book, Teach, Breathe, Learn: Mindfulness In and Out of the Classroom was featured on Edutopia. She also served on the board of directors of the Mindfulness in Education Network, and was core faculty of the Mindful Education Institute.

Linda Lantieri, MA,Linda Lantieri, MA, has been in the field of education for almost 50 years in a variety of capacities: classroom teacher, assistant principal, director of a middle school in East Harlem, and faculty member at Hunter College and at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a Fulbright Scholar and internationally known speaker in the areas of Social and Emotional Learning, Contemplative Teaching and Learning, and Spirituality in K-12 Education. Lantieri is one of the cofounders of the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). For the past 15 years she served as the founding director of the Inner Resilience Program which integrates Mindfulness and SEL in K-12 schools.

Daniel RechtschaffenDaniel Rechtschaffen, MA, LMFT, is the author of The Way of Mindful Education and The Mindful Education Workbook. He has organized the annual Mindfulness in Education Conference at Omega for more than a decade and has been involved with Teacher Training in Mindfulness in Education. Daniel offers keynotes and mindfulness trainings at conferences, schools, communities, and businesses, such as University of Wisconsin Madison, Google, and Esalen Institute, and many schools around the globe, including in Europe and Asia. Daniel teaches mindfulness through music, sports, storytelling, games, and other engaging approaches.

Janice JacksonJanice Jackson, EdD, is an independent education consultant with a focus on leadership and organizational change in public schools and districts, equity strategies, teaching and learning, teachers’ and principals’ professional identity, and reflective judgment of principals and teachers. Prior to her current role she was a senior associate with the National Equity Project, served as executive director of the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education, and also served as the Deputy Superintendent of the Boston public schools. During the first term of the Clinton Administration she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education for the US Department of Education.

Hector MontenegroHector Montenegro, EdD, is a district systems development senior advisor. He began his teaching career in San Jose, California, where he taught mathematics at the junior and senior high school levels. He later taught and was an assistant principal in Washington, D.C. and a principal in Virginia. He served as chief of staff of the Washington, D.C. public schools before moving to Texas, where he served as a principal and area superintendent in Austin, deputy superintendent for instructional services in Dallas, and superintendent of schools in San Marcos, Ysleta, and Arlington. Most recently he served as an area superintendent for San Diego public schools.
