Circlesongs at Omega: an annual tradition, a thriving community. Bobby McFerrin can't be with us this summer, but he has personally trained and mentored our faculty—Joey Blake, Karen Goldfeder, Christiane Karam, Rhiannon, and Judi Donaghy Vinar. Join our team of inspiring teachers for a life-changing adventure.
Tuition has been reduced by half, as Bobby McFerrin won't be in attendance. Room, board, and facilities charges remain the same.
“Improvisation involves coming into a situation without rigid expectations or preconceptions. We must keep going forward, fearful or not, and be ready for anything that comes our way. That’s how life is. Remembering that life can be full of surprises is always useful. We’re improvising all the time—it’s good to recognize that.”
Join Bobby McFerrin's team of inspiring teachers for a weeklong workshop in the improvisational singing technique called Circlesongs.
This experiential workshop offers an immersion in sound, creativity, learning, and community. Accessible to beginners, yet challenging for even the most advanced, the program invites you to embrace the freedom to play, sing, invent, and imagine—in music and in life. Past attendees describe this full week program as a life-changing journey.
Bobby developed Circlesongs during his many years touring as a solo artist. He began enlisting the audience; he gave them parts to sing, using call and response, layering harmonies and rhythms, and conducting entrances. These Circlesongs—spontaneously composed choral pieces—not only made beautiful music, but also cultivated a deep sense of community and joy. He refined the technique further with his a cappella group Voicestra and in workshops with singers all over the world.
Circlesongs embrace all musical influences: tribal music, Bach, R&B, plainchant, Indian ragas, folksongs, doo wop, and more.
The Circlesongs technique builds the fundamentals of musicianship, including harmony, counterpoint, rhythmic precision, and deep listening. It also cultivates and develops the traditional skills required for ensemble singing—blend, balance, tuning, and sensitivity. The program features large group classes, smaller groups guided by individual faculty, and elective seminars. Elective topics include vocal and body percussion, looping, Balkan and a cappella choirs, freestyle language improvisation, and vocal technique.
The Circlesongs program is invaluable for singers and musicians at all levels, teachers and group facilitators, and for anyone interested in creating community, building trust, nurturing creativity, and embracing life to the fullest. Every song, every voice has a place in the circle.
We encourage all participants to register for the full 7-day program. Those who cannot attend the full program may register after March 1 for any available spaces in the 2-day introductory or the 5-day advanced program. Registration is by phone only. Call 877.944.2002.
