Creativity is part of human nature. Yet many of us have trouble connecting to, nurturing, and prioritizing our creativity and the art we wish to produce. In this engaging, interactive, values-centered workshop, you connect to your internal compass, harness your innate wisdom, and build your tolerance for taking artistic and creative risks.
In a supportive group environment, musician Lara Herscovitch provides protected time and space for anyone engaged in the creative arts. Through individual writing and reflection, small and large group exercises, music, discussion, and an optional “open mic” performance and exhibition, you rediscover and recommit to your creative, artistic core.
Together we discuss topics relating to creativity such as permission and un-shaming; myths about process, perfection, and the critic; inspiration; and commitment. We explore how to:
- Connect one’s art to a purpose
- Embrace fear and the vulnerability of creative connection
- Identify risks and stumbling blocks
- Accept intrinsic expression regardless of outcome
Poetry readings, dance breaks, improvisational circle singing, and viewing of photography, videos, and paintings enhance the creative atmosphere.
Artists at any level, beginning to advanced, amateur or professional, and using any media are welcome.
Things To Bring
The beauty of this workshop, in addition to gathering all kinds of different artists to learn, grow and co-create, is that you get to tailor your own experience. In that spirit, here’s what the Faculty recommend you bring with you:
- A sense of an artistic, creative horizon you want to be sailing towards
- Anything you might like to create art with (visual, audio or otherwise) during non-workshop time and our optional Saturday night ‘open mic’ / art share
- Non-judgment, of yourself & others
- An open & courageous heart
- A willingness to stretch, experiment & have fun
