Workshop

Liberation Prison Yoga

Trauma-Conscious Yoga for Justice-Involved Populations

Sep 22 - Sep 27 2019 Rhinebeck, NY
Learn trauma-informed Liberation Prison Yoga for justice-involved populations with founder Anneke Lucas.

Various traumatized populations can be found in prisons and jails, and incarceration is itself a traumatic experience. How do we offer a safe space within an inherently unsafe environment? How do we set boundaries and reach people who’ve been shut down by trauma and mental illness?

Learn effective yogic tools to work with trauma-affected and justice-involved populations. Using discussion, trauma-informed yoga practices, and mindfulness exercises in the Liberation Prison Yoga method, we focus on non-judgmental acceptance rather than on accountability and changing behavior.

We also explore race and privilege, social conscience and the importance of safety, how trauma affects the brain, daily empowerment practices, how to set up your own prison program, and more.

No teaching certification is required to take this workshop, but having an active yoga/meditation practice is helpful.
