Adapt mindfulness-based interventions for clients hijacked by stress in this professional training with Dr. Chris Molnar, founder of the META Center.

Are you a mental or health-care professional helping clients with strong emotional states?

This training with Dr. Chris Molnar teaches you how to adapt mindfulness-based interventions to the needs of people hijacked by the symptoms of anxiety, trauma, depression, OCD, and other stress-exacerbated conditions.

The Mindful Exposure Therapy for Anxiety (META) program, developed by Dr. Molnar and her team, integrates relational wisdom practices that cultivate the “sublime states” of Buddhist psychology, with behavioral, interpersonal, emotional processing, and experiential therapy strategies, such as the "mindfulness out loud" relational practice.

Traditional mindfulness training focuses on "top-down" processes that require stepping out of automatic pilot. We know this is often not possible for people who are overwhelmed by extreme states of stress and a range of negative emotions that accompany it. Instead, highly anxious clients benefit from “bottom-up” responding that can be cued, with deliberate practice, in response to early elements of the emotion spiral.

During this intensive weeklong professional training, you:

  • Unpack the four self-contained modules of META that reflect extreme emotional states
  • Directly experience each META module as a participant
  • Access a model of intentional peer consultation to support challenging cases and self-care
  • Learn the science behind the strategies in each module, in everyday language
  • Conduct brief assessments for identifying mental and behavioral habits
  • Review tracking outcomes using a participant-practitioner model

Opportunities for ongoing peer consultation in community will be supported beyond the training.

Dr. Molnar is independently offering continuing education credits; see Continuing Education for more information. This training will include case consultation of a clinical nature. It is open only to licensed professionals and those in training who agree to abide by the American Psychological Association ethics code. All attendees are asked to complete pre-training assessments that will be emailed after registration.
