Throughout history, the distinct and beautiful mosaic art form has held a special place in the art world. From the oldest mosaic works dating back several thousand years to the contemporary mosaic designs of thriving modern art scenes, this versatile medium has served as the geometric conduit of countless public and private expressions of creativity.
Under the guidance of mosaic artist Suzi K. Edwards, this workshop invites you to immerse yourself in this ancient artistic activity by surrounding a heart shaped mirror with multi-media mosaic visions of love and beauty.
This weekend you learn the tools and techniques of mosaic art to concoct a totally original and functional piece that will enhance your home and enliven your day. You work with materials including glass beads and tesserae, alphabet letters for text, broken China, seashells, photographs under glass, porcelain flowers, and found objects.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate mosaicists alike; no previous experience is necessary. All are encouraged to freely create to their heart’s desire.
Enrollment is limited for this program; register early.
Things To Bring
You will all need to buy or bring a mosaic wheeled tile nipper, a tool that you will use again and again. They are available on Amazon, at Lowe’s and Michaels. Make sure that they are Wheeled for glass tiles. The straight cut nippers are for ceramic, and we’re working with glass. I will supply everything else: tiles, wooden substrate, glue, clock work, et al. Bring an apron too.
