We are no longer taking online registrations for this workshop.

This week at Omega Costa Rica, explore a contemporary approach to Buddhism, discover the benefits to joyful eating, or develop the art of attention. You also can experience memoir as a healing path, practice rejuvenating qigong or dance, or learn the fundamentals of longevity.

Workshops meet each day (except Wednesday) in the morning and afternoon. Sample from a variety of programs with Omega’s acclaimed teachers, choosing a new workshop each day, if you like. Or, abandon your schedule, head to the beach and create your own experience.

Sample from any or all of the following workshops during Week 1.

Giving Life to Life
Exploring Compassion Inside & Out

Joan Halifax Roshi
In this contemporary approach to the teachings of Buddhism, we explore compassion as an internal process and as an engaged practice.  Learn about the latest research on compassion taking place in the fields of social psychology and neuroscience, along with practices that engender compassion. Zen teacher and social activist Joan Halifax Roshi has a unique style of teaching—using story, koans, science, history, contemporary events, interaction, and she provides the opportunity for a plunge into meditation practice.

The Nutrition for Life Plan
Nourish Your Body, Mind & Spirit

Joan Borysenko, PhD
Be prepared to relax, reflect, and nourish your whole being as you immerse yourself in mind-body medicine, psychology, and spiritual practices that inform and inspire your journey to joyous, radiant health. Discover dynamic tools to implement a unique Nutrition-for-Life Plan, including tips for cooking, mind-body meditations, journaling, everyday healing rituals, and a four-week strategy to jump start your new approach to joyful eating and “digesting” your life. Learn why leading-edge nutritional science and ancient holistic wisdom should inform your personal food choices, and experience the Zen of eating—how beliefs, mindfulness, pleasure, and gratitude are as physiologically important as the foods you eat.

Art of Attention
Elena Brower
Develop the art of attention through the architecture of yoga poses, breathwork, and rejuvenating energetic longevity practices. Explore steady yoga sequencing and nourishing meditation intended to accompany you home as restorative healing rituals you can incorporate into daily life.

Writing to Awaken
Spiritual Memoir as a Healing Path
Mark Matousek, MA

Learning to write truthfully about life experiences, to discern your soul’s journey, you come to understand the mythic dimension of personal struggles, triumphs, confusions, and so-called mistakes. This comes as an awakening. When you tell the truth, your story changes. When your story changes, your life is transformed. Discover spiritual memoir as a path to self-knowledge and take a literary pilgrimage within, using writing exercises, group dialogue, and one-on-one time with Mark Matousek.

5Rhythms® Movement as Meditation
Amber Ryan

Within each moment rests the seed of awakening. In each breath we have an opportunity to seek refuge within ourselves or to fully connect with another. The 5Rhythms® practice allows us a space to explore the primary levels of connection to oneself, one another, and the collective. Dance by dance we show up just as we are awakening to our truths, dancing ourselves inside-out to return to a simple and profound state of being. The 5Rhythms—flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness—are a moving meditation practice created by Gabrielle Roth. They are designed to bring out each individual’s creative potential as well as being a catalyst for deep healing in the body, mind, and soul.

The Path to Longevity
Create More Time for Life

Stephan Rechtschaffen, MD
Physician, author, and cofounder of Omega, Stephan Rechtschaffen, teaches integrative approaches to longevity, time, stress reduction, and well-being. Learn the fundamental basis to attain and maintain greater vitality and long life. Through inspiring lectures, guided visualizations, and meditation practices, the author of Timeshifting and coauthor of Vitality and Wellness, shows you how to lead a more balanced and integrative life while coming deeper into the present moment.

Cultivate Your Life Force
Waterfall Qigong Style

Steven Michael Pague
Delve into the mysteries of qigong through a blend of easy-to-learn, yet profound movements designed to increase vitality, strengthen immune function, enhance creativity, and achieve harmony and balance, and much more. Join in and kindle the fire of your inner smile, align yourself between heaven and earth and find the extraordinary in the ordinary. While enjoying practices of movement and stillness, we also learn about the history, philosophy, and healing principals of qigong. As streams gather to form a river or waterfall, Waterfall Qigong is a joining of several lineages and teaching styles. Garner and take home what you will need to develop, or add to, a practice of your own.
