Codependence has been described as “the addiction to look elsewhere.” It derives from the belief that something outside of ourselves—people, places, things, behaviors, or experiences—can give us fulfillment and joy. It is the most common addiction, and also the base from which all other addictions and compulsions arise.
In daily life, codependency can be expressed as the need to control or be controlled, to be approval-seeking and confrontation-avoidant. Codependents often have difficulty experiencing appropriate levels of self-esteem, setting functional boundaries, making decisions, and/or verbalizing requests.
But there is a way to break the barriers that keep us trapped. When we deeply connect with who we truly are, and form a stronger connection with some bigger energy or higher power, we become more able to form deeply fulfilling relationships with ourselves, others, and the divine.
Using lecture, discussion, experiential exercises, and the tools of yoga (including asana, pranayama, meditation, and chanting), this intensive examines the root of codependency and offers practical, effective tools for healing through a process of awareness, creativity, and self-love.
