Is mindfulness meditation safe for those who’ve experienced trauma? It can be, but mindfulness practice is not one-size-fits-all. Sometimes, those who have experienced trauma may require a different approach. Drawing on a decade of research and clinical experience, Treleaven shows that mindfulness meditation—if practiced without an awareness of trauma—can exacerbate symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
Learn how to teach and practice mindfulness in a trauma-sensitive way by recognizing symptoms of traumatic stress and examining practical modifications that support the safety and well-being of clients and students. Integrating contemporary research about the benefits of meditation with the physiological mechanisms of post-traumatic stress, we develop a systemic understanding of trauma-sensitive mindfulness as a practice that works effectively across social difference.
This training is designed for anyone who teaches mindfulness or contemplative practices, including therapists, coaches, and teachers.
