Spend an exciting weekend exploring the lively, transparent medium of watercolor—even if you have never picked up a paintbrush before.
In a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere, we learn about our materials, and then let ourselves go as we rediscover the unfettered creative spirit of our childhood and explore how paint acts on wet paper.
During the weekend, we observe the effects the colors have on each other through a series of color-mixing adventures that give us an understanding of how to use color in future painting endeavors. We conclude with drawing and painting from life—and we learn that, yes, in fact, we all can do it!
Enrollment is limited for this program; register early. Ann Kristin Lindsay is also teaching Painting Flowers in Watercolor.
The faculty recommends the following book for this course:
- Watercolor: A New Beginning by Ann K. Lindsay (Available at www.annlindsay.org/book.html for $40 + $5 priority shipping)

Things To Bring
If you have painted before, and have comparable materials, bring what you have. Academy Paints ($5/tube), Arches paper ($8/sheet), folding palettes and other supplies will be for sale at the workshop. Paper Towels, tissues & masking tape will be provided, but you may want to bring your own.
- 4 tubes good quality watercolors*
- Permanent Rose, Red Rose Deep or Thalo Red
- Any Light Yellow (except Naples Yellow)
- Ultramarine Blue and Thalo Blue (or Winsor Blue Green shade)
Note: Grumbacher Academy and Van Gogh are good quality student grade watercolors that are widely available. Cotman are not recommended. All "professional" and "artist" grade paints are very good. They can all be used together.
