Yoga as Medicine (YAM) Level 1 is a hands-on training that provides a systematic roadmap to using yoga as a therapy to improve your health and the health of your students.
Under the guidance of medical doctor and yoga therapist Timothy McCall, you learn YAM’s system of assessment, called SNAPS, an acronym for Structural, Nervous System and Breath, Ayurveda, Psychology and Spirituality.
Through case studies, lectures, yoga practices, writing exercises, and guided meditations, you learn to assess function on all levels of body, mind, and spirit. In small groups you roll up your sleeves, observe each other, and create personalized therapeutic yoga practices that include poses, breathing techniques, meditation, philosophy, and dietary and lifestyle suggestions.
This training is suitable for yoga teachers and students, holistic health practitioners, health care professionals, and those seeking yoga therapy for conditions like back pain, cancer, arthritis, heart problems, Parkinson’s disease, anxiety, and depression. Familiarity with basic yoga concepts and practices is helpful, but not necessary.
